Council approves Brooks Road Landfill’s “buffer zone”

Haldimand County council approved an Official Plan and zoning amendment on June 17, which would allow Brooks Road Environmental to move ahead with their Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) application with the Ministry of Environment (MOE).

“Our understanding is the Ministry is actually waiting for a decision from the County for the ECA to be granted,” said Blair Shoniker, senior environmental planner with Conestoga-Rovers and Associates.

If they get the ECA, the landfill would be given permission to add 4.7 acres of a railway corridor to the site. The land would be used to store clean clay and soil and act as a buffer zone or shield between the landfill and the wetlands.
